I thought the movie lacked any mention of the various ways in which corporations are regulated. Many of the examples cited by Bakan, including Monsanto and US companies profiting from the Nazi regime, are examples of cases where regulators have failed to reign in the profit-seeking nature of corporations. I fail to see how this is problematic in a systematic sense.
Despite the existence of the Criminal Code, murders do occur in our society – it does not follow that the Criminal Code is inherently flawed. Rather, there may be room to tweak the Code to lower the chances of a murder occurring, or it may be the case that some murders will nonetheless occur in our society.
Similarly, it seems to me that there will always be cases where corporations act in ways that are not in the best interests of society as a whole. This does not mean that corporations should be abolished, but rather that the ways in which they are regulated should be tweaked.
Beyond this, I found the film a bit repetitive and lacking a coherent development. The assumption that corporations are profit driven is not a new one, and two and a half hours of examples illustrating this fact seems unnecessary.
